Abstract:
In this article we propose looking, not at EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) as such, but at EDI as a « building site » from which new models of the firm and management are being sought and experimented, within and between firms. Developments which the « EDI project » aim to federate are mostly empirical, pragmatic, resulting from trial and error, sometimes from « regression », and introducing discrepancies in relation to other transformations. It is form the observation of these adjustements, experiments and discrepancies that hypotheses are formulated on : - the way in which what can globally be called a new industrial model, is formulated, and - the contradictions or locatable limits between the relevant priorities or dimensions, all of which highlight, the unfinished character of the developments underway.
