Abstract:
La enfermedad emergente causada por los hongos patógenos Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis ( Bd ) y Batrachochytrium salamandrivorans ( Bsal ) es una de las principales causas de la pérdida de biodiversidad de anfibios. Mientras Bd ha afectado anfibios globalmente, Bsal está restringido en Asia y Europa, sin embargo, este último podría representar una importante amenaza para las salamandras del hemisferio oeste, incluyendo los 320 bolitoglosinos descritos. Aquí, predijimos las áreas idóneas para Bsal en el Neotrópico y evaluamos su impacto potencial en la diversidad de bolitoglosinos. Para ello, determinamos los patrones geográficos de diversidad taxonómica, filogenética y funcional de los bolitoglosinos y modelamos la distribución potencial de Bsal en el Neotrópico. Identificamos especies y regiones en riesgo potencial ante una eventual introducción de Bsal , cuantificando el traslape entre regiones de alta diversidad y regiones idóneas para el patógeno y considerando además el estatus de las especies según la Lista Roja de la UICN y el tamaño de su rango geográfico. Encontramos que las regiones con alta diversidad taxonómica, filogenética y funcional están concentradas en el Eje Volcánico Trans‐Mexicano, la Sierra Madre Oriental, el sur de la Sierra Madre del Sur y las montañas de Oaxaca en México, las altas montañas de Chiapas‐Guatemala y las cordilleras de Costa Rica y Panamá. Alarmantemente, tanto las regiones con alta diversidad de bolitoglosinos, como más de 75% de la distribución de las especies más amenazadas según UICN, serían afectadas por Bsal . Dada la desconocida vulnerabilidad de estas especies, recomendamos enérgicamente medidas que eviten la introducción de Bsal en el continente.
