Abstract:
Possibilities of new ferroelectrics, Bi 5 Nb 3 O 15 (BIN) and
Bi 5 Ta 3 O 15 (BTA), where A=Bi 5+ , B=Nb 5+ and Ta 5+ and k =1,
in the general formula of mixed bismuth layer-structured oxides (MBLSO), Bi 4 A 2 k -1 B 2 k +1 O 6 k +9 ( k =1, 2, 3, 4), are discussed
using ordinary fired, hot-pressed and hot-forged ceramics. The lattice constants are a =5.46 4 , b =5.34 0 and c =21.0 1 Å for BIN
and a =5.43 4 , b =5.39 4 and c =20.8 2 Å for BTA. The D-E
hysteresis loop of hot-pressed BIN at 150° C indicates that BIN may be a new ferroelectric. The dielectric constant, ε s , of BTA
shows a peak at about 550° C in the temperature-dependence curve of ε s .
