Abstract:
A classificação dos rios da Amazônia vai auxiliar na gestão e preservação desses recursos. O estudo avaliou as variáveis, cor, pH, oxigênio dissolvido (OD), turbidez e íon amônio (NH4+) nos rios da Amazônia e comparou aos padrões estabelecidos na classe 2 da Resolução nº 357/2005, do CONAMA. Foram coletadas 228 amostras em 17 locais ao longo do rio Amazonas e em 39 tributários, no período de outubro/2008 a novembro/2011. No rio Amazonas e tributários, o pH variou de 4,51 a 7,53 e OD com valores inferiores a 5,0 mg/L. Nos rios de águas pretas, que nascem nos escudos das Guianas e do Brasil Central, as águas são, em sua maioria, ácidas com pH 〈 6,0 e a cor apresenta valores acima 75 mg Pt/L, devido à presença de substâncias húmicas e fúlvicas originadas da decomposição vegetal.
