Abstract:
O presente trabalho teve por objetivo sensibilizar a população do município de Araçuaí – MG sobre os problemas decorrentes da criação e/ou abandono dos equídeos no meio urbano, principalmente em vias públicas. Questionários foram aplicados para avaliar o conhecimento da população sobre os impactos provocados pela criação e/ou abandono de equídeos no meio urbano. Na oportunidade, foram distribuídos folders e realizadas as explicações sobre o tema do projeto de forma a conscientizar a população da importância de se ter responsabilidade para criar os equídeos, evitando desta maneira a existência de animais errantes em vias públicas. Por fim, foi realizada uma avaliação crítica das políticas públicas destinadas à soltura de equídeos no meio urbano. Verificou-se, por meio das respostas dos entrevistados, que a criação e/ou abandono dos equídeos no meio urbano acarreta problemas econômicos, sociais, sanitários e ambientais, além de prejudicar o bem-estar dos animais. A população do município, no entanto, conhece parcialmente os impactos econômicos, sociais, sanitários e ambientais provocados pela criação e/ou abandono dos equídeos no meio urbano. No que diz respeito às políticas públicas do município de Araçuaí destinadas aos equídeos criados e/ou abandonados em meio urbano, percebe-se, com base na legislação municipal vigente, que há sim uma preocupação com a problemática, mas que não são suficientes ou eficientes para reverter a situação atual. Conclui-se que a atitude, e não apenas o conhecimento, é essencial. Para isso, é importante e urgente elaborar políticas públicas com foco nos equinos soltos e/ou abandonados em vias públicas, de profissionais para fiscalização e, sobretudo, de investimento em educação.
