Abstract:
Evaluar la pérdida auditiva en niños como complicación de la anemia falciforme ( AF ). Métodos A 35 niños con AF y edades entre los 6 meses y 10 años se les realizó una evaluación de emisiones otoacústicas evocadas transitorias ( EOET ) para investigar la función del oído interno, en Kumasi, Ghana. Niños Ghaneses sanos, reclutados en la escuela primaria y preescolar, sirvieron como controles. Resultados Uno de 35 niños con AF y 13 de los 115 controles fallaron las pruebas de emisiones otoacústicas. Esta diferencia entre el grupo control y los niños con AF no era estadísticamente significativa. Conclusión La pérdida auditiva temprana no suele ocurrir de forma regular en la anemia falciforme; y en niños no parece ser la causa de un retraso o disfunción en el desarrollo del lenguaje.
