Abstract:
Objetivo Describir los patrones de exposición relacionados con la transmisión de esquistosomiasis, en 10 poblados del contado rural de Xichang, Sichuan, China. Métodos Estudio sobre la exposición a contacto con agua y la reinfección por Schistosoma japonicum , a nivel individual y poblacional: después de un estudio de infección, se determinó dos años después la reinfección en 1064 individuos, de los cuales 578 también participaron en un estudio croseccional para evaluar su comportamiento de contacto con agua. Resultados La intensidad de reinfección más alta se observó en granjeros con edades comprendidas entre 20–29 años, sin diferencia de reinfección entre sexos. El contacto con el agua, medido como m 2 ‐minutos de contacto, no estaba asociado con la reinfección. Sin embargo, un exposición métrica calculada con la ponderación espacial del contacto con el agua por el riesgo de cercaria, se correlacionaba tanto con el estatus de infección como con la intensidad. Los indicadores a nivel de poblado, basados en la densidad de los caracoles, número de caracoles infectados, datos de bioensayo del ratón, y niveles de exposición individual promediados, estaban asociados con las tasas de reinfección de la población. Conclusión Aunque los datos sugieren que la inmunidad adquirida con la edad podría estar presente en esta población, el estudio no tenía el poder suficiente para discernir diferencias entre la exposición h.p.g. relacionadas con la edad.
