Abstract:
According to this prospective, multicenter, single‐arm, phase 2 study, stereotactic body radiation therapy as the primary treatment for painful vertebral metastases can achieve an overall pain response of 87% at 3 months (complete response, 30%; partial response, 57%), and the pain response remains stable for at least 12 months. The majority of patients (72%) present with an epidural tumor component and achieve outcomes identical to those of patients without epidural disease. Stereotactic body radiation therapy may become a treatment of choice for selected patients.
