Abstract:
Introdução: A ausência de coleta, associada ao manuseio e a disposição inadequados dos resíduos sólidos municipais, são importantes fatores de risco para a saúde pública. Objetivos: O presente estudo verificou a percepção das condições do lixo e o nível de conhecimento da população em relação a diferentes questões relacionadas. Metodologia: Foram entrevistados 1281 moradores dos bairros de Divinópolis-MG. A coleta das informações foi realizada através de um questionário estruturado, padronizado e testado, com perguntas fechadas e pré-codificadas. Verificou-se questões sociodemográficas, indicadores do abastecimento e uso da água e do escoamento do esgoto; o uso e destinação do lixo e da relação do lixo com vetores de doenças. Posteriormente foi feita análise estatística. Resultados: Observou-se que da população estudada, 91% perceberam insetos ou ratos no lixo e 98,2% relataram existir serviço de coleta de lixo, mas 89,7% informaram que não há serviço de limpeza de rua e 59,5% que há algum foco de doença no bairro. A maioria da população também relatou que alguma doença está relacionada ao lixo e que já visualizou insetos e ratos no lixo. Conclusão: Diante da percepção da população sobre o lixo e vetores a ele relacionado, sugere-se que haja um direcionamento nas campanhas sobre o tema, indicando práticas corretas de armazenamento de resíduos, contribuindo assim para diminuir a presença de animais vetores de doenças no lixo.
