Abstract: To evaluate the expression of AMH and its receptor AMHRII, ovaries of 33 p cats were investigated by western blot and immunohistochemistry. After ovariohysterectomy, the cats were grouped according to pregnancy stages and ovarian/placental endocrine activity: group I (n = 3, 24–29 days), II (n = 8, 32–40 days), III (n = 4, 41–46 days), IV (n = 6, 53–61 days) and according to cycle stages: V (n = 6, interestrus) and VI (n = 6, estrus). Serum progesterone- and AMH-concentration was measured. Follicle numbers did not differ between groups. The number of corpora lutea was higher in pregnant cats than in the non-pregnant cats. Serum AMH concentration was at maximum between day 30 and 50 of gestation, and was higher than in non-pregnant cats, then decreased towards term (p 〈 0.05). In the ovaries, AMH immunopositivity was observed in granulosa cells of secondary and antral follicles, and in interstitial cells of corpora lutea; highest percentage of immunopositive areas was detected in group III (p 〈 0.05). A positive correlation between the number of corpora lutea and the positive AMH signals in ovarian tissue was determined (r2 = 0.832, p 〈 0.05); however, only during mid-gestation (group II). Expression of AMHRII was in close co-localization with AMH and strong in the interstitial cells surrounding follicles undergoing atresia. AMHRII expression did not differ between pregnant groups but was higher compared to estrus cats (p ˂ 0.05). We conclude that AMH and AMHRII expression in the feline ovary is comparable to other species. The high serum AMH concentration and ovarian AMHRII expression between day 30 and 50 of gestation are probably related to ovarian activity and follicular atresia.

Abstract: Objective: We aimed to evaluate the perinatal outcomes of women diagnosed with gestational hypertension and no proteinuria according to the gestational weeks. Methods: We included women diagnosed with gestational hypertension between 2010 and 2014 at our institution and excluded the patients with preeclampsia and chronic hypertension. Women with gestational hypertension were grouped according to the gestational weeks. One group consisted of the pregnancies between 37 and 38*6, whereas the other group included pregnancies between 39 and 41 weeks. Then the outcomes of these pregnancies were compared with healthy women who had delivery between the same weeks (37–38*6 weeks and 39–41 weeks). We analyzed the mode of delivery, birth weight, and neonatal outcomes of these pregnancies. Results: First and fifth minute Apgar scores were significantly decreased in women with gestational hypertension who had delivery between 39 and 41 weeks compared to healthy subjects (respectively, p = 0.005 and p = 0.033). Perinatal outcomes were adversely af ected if the time of delivery was beyond 39 weeks in pregnancies complicated with gestational hypertension. Conclusion: We concluded that perinatal outcomes were adversely affected if the time of delivery was beyond 39 weeks in pregnancies complicated with gestational hypertension, and outcomes of such pregnancies can be improved if time for delivery is 〈 39 weeks.

Abstract: This study was planned to determine the current and prospective views of the senior medical and nursing faculty students about their profession. The research was carried out in accordance with the phenomenological research design, which is one of the qualitative research methods. The study group of the research consisted of 10 students who volunteered to work among the senior students of the faculty of medicine and nursing of a university in the Aegean Region of our country. A semi-structured interview form prepared by the researchers was used as a data collection tool. The data obtained from the interview were collected under two themes: "expectations from professional life" and "the situation of the profession in the next ten years". Three sub-themes were formed as “professionalism”, “material expectations” and “spiritual expectations” as sub-themes of the main theme of “expectations from their professional life”. Under the main theme of the state of the profession in the next ten years, six sub-themes were formed: “appreciation”, “autonomy”, “violence in health”, “patient rights”, “patient autonomy” and “medical law”. It was determined that the 4th grade students of the Faculty of Nursing and 6th grade students of the Faculty of Medicine, who participated in the study, were anxious about continuing the profession professionally at a time when they were so close to stepping into the profession. In this direction, the studies in which the subject is handled with different dimensions should be brought to the scientific literature in terms of emphasizing the subjects such as students' readiness for the profession, future anxiety and professional business life, and awareness of advisor faculty members, health care managers and policy makers.

Abstract: The coronavirus disease emerged in 2019, spread in Turkey as all over the world rapidly. In this process, young people began to experience some mental problems due to the fear of contagion, as well as some changes in their lifestyles. Aims: In this study it is aimed to investigate anxiety and depression levels of medical school students and the factors associated with these mental problems. Method: The forms were sent over the internet to the officials responsible for medical education at universities in various regions of Turkey. A total of 2,778 medical faculty students were included in the study. Students were asked to fill out the sociodemographic data form, the Patient Health Questionnaire – 9 (PHQ-9), and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) Test. Results: Students’ 67.3% were female and 31.7% were male. About 90.2% of the students in the PHQ-9 scale had depressive symptoms in the major depressive disorder (MDD) dimension, and 44.5% in the GAD-7 scale had moderate/severe anxiety symptoms. Gender, being a preclinical student, history of psychiatric treatment in the past, currently receiving psychiatric treatment, death of someone due to pandemic, economic and health situation, perception of mental health were found associated with MDD and Moderate/Severe Anxiety symptoms. Students with Anxiety and MDD reported significantly more anxiety about contamination and negative beliefs about precautions’ sufficiency. Conclusions: It was determined that medical school students in our country showed anxiety and depression at a remarkable level during the pandemic. Examining the underlying causes of these high rates will be beneficial in terms of taking precautions during the long-term pandemic. In literature, there are a limited number of studies on this subject in our country, we believe that our study will be useful in future studies to determine the underlying causes of mental illnesses and what can be done to help students.

Abstract: Abstract Objective: Cancer is the second most common cause of death in Turkey, following cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge and practice of breast self-examination (BSE) among undergraduate female medical school students of Kocaeli University. Methods: This study was carried out among 533 female (mean age 21.2 ±1.9 years; range 17-28) students in the 2014-2015 educational year. A semi-structured questionnaire with five parts (socio-demographics, anthropometric measurements, individual and famlial reproductive and obstetric histories, breast self examination knowledge and pratice frequency, knowledge about breast cancer risk factors) awas used.  Results:  More than half of the students (n=309, 58%) indicated that they had enough information about breast cancer. Main source of information was “Medical School Lectures” (n=330, 61.9%). According to The Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Form, all of the students had “low risk / below 200 score”. Self rated breast cancer risk was “0” according to 43(9.1%) students; 40.4% (191/472) of students perceived their risks 50% and over. Mean knowledge score was 13.53±2.46; 41/533 students had 17/17 points. Breast self examination was performed “at least monthly” by 128 (57.7%) although 414 (77.7%) of the students declared to know BSE. More than a quarter of the participants (n=165, 30.9%) described BSE and 122 (73.9%) of these descriptions were “sufficient”. As for the reasons of “not performing BSE”; 109 of the students reported BSE as “unnecessary”. Conlusion: Female medical school students who have low risk scores for breast cancer are knowledgeable about breast cancer but still a considerable part of them refrain BSE.

Abstract: The first years of human life are critical in all developmental areas. In these years, shared family experiences, social interaction, and safe, responsive, and nurturing environments provided to a child constitute the determining factor in their future life. The home environment is considered to be a place where the foundations of language and literacy skills are stimulated for many children. The COVID-19 pandemic, which affected the whole world, has caused non-formal education to be carried out remotely and via digital tools to an unprecedented extent. This situation has necessitated parents to be more aware of the possibilities of the home environment and its impact on children and to better understand the importance of taking responsibility. However, very few scholars in this pandemic situation have pointed out how language and literacy opportunities can be offered in the home environment, which is the first place of education for children. Therefore, this study aims to increase parents' home literacy skills and attitudes in order to develop opportunities and resources for children's participation in literacy-related interactions. Over a semester, 11 preschool and 12 first-year elementary school parents participated in this action research from Buca district of Izmir province in Turkey. Before implementing the action plans, parental attitudes towards home literacy competencies were assessed using a semi-structured survey prepared by the researchers. After the action plan, the parents’ developmental status and attitudes towards home literacy were again evaluated with a semi-structured survey, and all data were analyzed using descriptive, percentage, frequency, and Cramer V analysis methods. According to the results, the action plan steps had a positive impact on raising awareness of the home literacy environment, building language and literacy activities, and supporting extension skills in essential language development (listening/watching, speaking, reading, and writing).
