Abstract: The new genus Spinosuncus gen. n. is proposed for three known species, S.contractalis (Warren, 1896), comb. n. , S.praepandalis (Snellen, 1890), comb. n. , and S.aureolalis (Lederer, 1863), comb. n. and four new species, S.rectacutus sp. n. , S.brevacutus sp. n. , S.curvisetaceus sp. n. , and S.quadracutus sp. n. from the Oriental Region. An identification key is provided for all species. The habiti and genitalia of all species are figured. The monophyly of the genus is well supported by a phylogenetic analysis based on sequence data of the COI, 16S rRNA, and EF-1α genes. The potential sister groups of the new genus, the interspecific relationships and some intraspecific variations within the genus are discussed.

Abstract: The genus Ecpyrrhorrhoe Hübner, 1825 is revised. Most type materials were examined, and a preliminary phylogeny is presented based on a combined dataset of COI, 16S rRNA, 28S rRNA and EF-1α gene regions. The tree topology and morphological characters suggest that Paliga Moore, 1886 is a new synonym of Ecpyrrhorrhoe , and Yezobotys Munroe & amp; Mutuura, 1969 is restored as a valid genus. According to the morphological evidence and tree topology, 17 species are recorded, including five new species described from China: E. allochroa Zhang & amp; Xiang, sp. nov. , E. rosisquama Xiang & amp; Zhang, sp. nov. , E. exigistria Zhang & amp; Xiang, sp. nov. , E. brevis Zhang & amp; Xiang, sp. nov. and E. longispinalis Zhang & amp; Xiang, sp. nov. Seven new combinations are created, E. damastesalis (Walker, 1859), comb. nov. , E. minnehaha (Pryer, 1877), comb. nov. , E. obliquata (Moore, 1888), comb. nov. , E. rufipicta (Butler, 1880), comb. nov. , E. fimbriata (Moore, 1886), comb. nov. , E. machoeralis (Walker, 1859), comb. nov. , and E. rubellalis (Snellen, 1890), comb. nov. , as well as eight new synonyms, namely Leucocraspeda auratalis Warren, 1895, syn. nov. , Pionea schenklingi Strand, 1918, syn. nov. , Paliga rubicundalis Warren, 1896, syn. nov. , E. angustivalvaris Gao, Zhang & amp; Wang, 2013, syn. nov. , Pyrausta pygmaealis South, 1901, syn. nov. , E. multispinalis Gao, Zhang & amp;Wang, 2013, syn. nov. , E. aduncis Gao, Zhang & amp; Wang, 2013, syn. nov. , and E. ruidispinalis Zhang, Li & amp; Wang, 2004, syn. nov. All adults and their genital structures are illustrated and an identification key based on adult external morphology and genitalia is provided.

Abstract: Moths of the genus Emphylica Turner, 1913 resemble species of Achyra Guenée, 1849, Loxostege Hübner, 1825 and Sitochroa Hübner, 1825 in having a conical frons. In order to examine the monophyly of Emphylica , and its relationship to other genera with a conical frons, a molecular phylogenetic framework is reconstructed based on sequence data of COI, 16S rRNA, 28S rRNA, EF-1α and Wg gene regions. The results robustly support the monophyly of Emphylica . Achyra + ( Loxostege + Sitochroa ) is in a sister position to Emphylica . A new species, E.crassihamata sp. n. , is described from Southern China and two new combinations, E.diaphana (Caradja & amp; Meyrick, 1934), comb. n. and E.cruoralis (Warren, 1895), comb. n. , are proposed. An identification key based on males is provided for all Emphylica species. The adult habitus and genitalia of all species are figured.

Abstract: Species co-existence depends on how organisms utilize their environment and resources. Little is known about the winter diet composition and sympatric co-existence of South China sika deer and its companion species in Taohongling. In this study, high-throughput sequencing and metabarcoding trnL were used to study the diet composition and interspecific relationship including sika deer, Reeve’s muntjac, and Chinese hare. Our results show that 203 genera in 90 families are contained in the diet of sika deer, 203 genera in 95 families for Reeve’s muntjac, and 163 genera in 75 families for Chinese hare. Sika deer fed on Rubus chingii , Loropetalum chinense , and Eurya japonica in winter, accounting for 75.30%; Reeve’s muntjac consumed mainly R. chingii , E. japonica , and Euonymus grandiflorus , accounting for 68.80%, and Chinese hare mainly fed on R. chingii , Smilax china , and Rhus chinensis , accounting for 41.98%. The Shannon index showed no significant difference between groups ( p & gt; 0.05). The NMDS analysis found considerable overlap among three species. Sika deer and Reeve’s muntjac consumed similar forage plants but varied greatly in Chinese hare, which occupied the widest choice in winter, resulting in higher diet breadth and increased dietary divergence, thereby reducing competition and facilitating coexistence. The diet niche overlap index among them, as represented by Pianka’s index, ranging from 0.62 between sika deer and Chinese hare to 0.83 between sika deer and Reeve’s muntjac, which indicated a more similar niche and potential competition in closely related species. Our findings provide a new diet perspective of three herbivores, leading to a more comprehensive understanding of resource partitioning and species coexistence.

Abstract: The genus Epiparbattia Caradja, 1925 is revised based on general appearance, including genitalia. A new species, Epiparbattia multispinalis Zhang & amp; Chen, sp. nov. is described. The external characters and genitalia morphology of all species are figured. The phylogeny of Epiparbattia species is investigated using molecular data. Monophyly of the genus is well supported by phylogenetic analysis based on sequence data of COI , 16S rRNA , EF-1 α and 28S rRNA gene regions.

Abstract: Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a serious chronic complication of diabetes. This study aimed to establish weighted risk models for determining DFU occurrence and severity in diabetic patients. Methods This was a multi-center hospital-based cross-sectional study. A total of 1488 diabetic patients with or without an ulcer from three tertiary hospitals were included in the study. Random forest method was used to develop weighted risk models for assessing DFU risk and severity. Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to validate the models and calculate the optimal cut-off values of the important risk factors. Results We developed potent weighted risk models for evaluating DFU occurrence and severity. The top eight important risk factors for DFU onset were plasma fibrinogen, neutrophil percentage and hemoglobin levels in whole blood, stroke, estimated glomerular filtration rate, age, duration of diabetes, and serum albumin levels. The top 10 important risk factors for DFU severity were serum albumin, neutrophil percentage and hemoglobin levels in whole blood, plasma fibrinogen, hemoglobin A1c, estimated glomerular filtration rate, hypertension, serum uric acid, diabetic retinopathy, and sex. Furthermore, the area under curve values in the models using plasma fibrinogen as a single risk factor for determining DFU risk and severity were 0.86 (sensitivity 0.74, specificity 0.87) and 0.73 (sensitivity 0.76, specificity 0.58), respectively. The optimal cut-off values of plasma fibrinogen for determining DFU risk and severity were 3.88 g/L and 4.74 g/L, respectively. Conclusions We have established potent weighted risk models for DFU onset and severity, based on which precise prevention strategies can be formulated. Modification of important risk factors may help reduce the incidence and progression of DFUs in diabetic patients.

Abstract: Efficient and modular genome editing technologies that manipulate the genome of bacterial pathogens will facilitate the study of pathogenesis mechanisms. However, such methods are yet to be established for Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), the causal agent of rice bacterial blight. We identified a single type I‐C CRISPR‐Cas system in the Xoo genome and leveraged this endogenous defence system for high‐efficiency genome editing in Xoo. Specifically, we developed plasmid components carrying a mini‐CRISPR array, donor DNA, and a phage‐derived recombination system to enable the efficient and programmable genome editing of precise deletions, insertions, base substitutions, and gene replacements. Furthermore, the type I‐C CRISPR‐Cas system of Xoo cleaves target DNA unidirectionally, and this can be harnessed to generate large genomic deletions up to 212 kb efficiently. Therefore, the genome‐editing strategy we have developed can serve as an excellent tool for functional genomics of Xoo, and should also be applicable to other CRISPR‐harbouring bacterial plant pathogens.
