Es ist der Sommer des Jahres 1989 und Förster, Student der Germanistik in Bochum, besucht mit Brocki den gemeinsamen Freund Fränge in Berlin. Der treibt sich dort mehr in der Kneipen-Szene als an der Uni rum und bastelt an einer parallelen Liebesbeziehung zu einer West- und einer Ost-Berlinerin. Der turbulent beginnende Roman, der das Zeit-Kolorit jener Umbruchsphase ebenso überzeugend einfängt wie das Lokalkolorit, steuert mit dem Mauerfall und seinen völlig unerwarteten Konsequenzen für die drei Freunde auf seinen dramatischen Höhepunkt zu. In der ungekürzten Hörfassung erweist sich der Autor einmal mehr als der beste Interpret seiner Bücher, vor allem mit dem Tempo und der Intensität seines Vortrags, seiner überaus lebendigen Dialoggestaltung und dem authentischen Sound der Jugendsprache der späten 1980er-Jahre (im Ruhrgebiet wie in West- und Ost-Berlin).
