Unter dem Stichwort „Industrie 4.0“ ist in den letzten Jahren eine zunehmende Digitalisierung und Modernisierung von industriellen Produktionssystemen und -prozessen zu beobachten. Daher werden sich die Einsatzbedingungen und die Anforderungen an Mitarbeiter in Industriebetrieben wandeln, sodass neue Schnittstellen zwischen Mensch und Maschine notwendig werden. Wearable Computer (z. B. Datenbrillen und Smartwatches) stellen eine vielversprechende Technologie dar, die als Mensch-Maschine-Schnittstelle dienen kann. Der Einsatz dieser Technologie im Industriesektor wird in dieser Dissertation adressiert. Dazu werden der aktuelle Stand der Forschung sowie empirische Erkenntnisse zu Einsatzmöglichkeiten von Datenbrillen und Smartwatches, deren Wirkungen und zu berücksichtigende Rahmenbedingungen dargestellt. Aufbauend darauf werden drei Wearable Computer-Anwendungen entwickelt und evaluiert. Daraus werden schließlich Gestaltungsansätze abgeleitet sowie ein Vorgehensmodell zur Auswahl von industrietauglichen Wearable Computer-Endgeräten vorgeschlagen.
