Werner Kaligofsky geht es in seinen subtilen und insistierenden fotografischen Untersuchungen um eine Demontage und gleichzeitige Rekonstruktion von Geschichte, die über Bilder funktioniert. Einerseits dienen ihm dazu gezielt ausgewählte fotografische oder filmische Bilder als Material, das er in verschiedenen Schritten aufbereitet und bearbeitet, um einer verborgenen, fallweise auch unbewussten Politik dieser Bildregien auf die Spur zu kommen. Alle seine Arbeiten zielen auf die "Problematisierung des Funktionierens [des] Wahrnehmungsprozesses selbst" (Monika Faber). Erst über diesen Prozess der Erkenntnis, den Kaligofsky in Gang setzt, werden die politischen Dimensionen sichtbar, denen sein Interesse gilt.
