This thesis reports on the development of learners' consultation practices using corpora or traditional resources, and provides insights into the impact of the data¬driven learning approach on the learners' writing. The mixed methods approach triangulates the quantitative results from longitudinal and sequential analyses of the consultations and the productions, with the qualitative results of learners' behavior and their own SWOT evaluations. This study thus combines emic and etic perspectives in an ecological context, therefore produces a more fine-grained analysis of the results. The experiment was conducted over three months in a University Institute of Technology in France with the participation of 67 first-year students in Marketing divided into three groups, each tasked with writing professional emails. The first used a specifically designed corpus, combining their domain of specialty and the genre, which corresponded with the specific task; the second had access to a free on-line generic corpus, while the third (control) group consulted a bilingual dictionary. Three successive sessions were dedicated to the consultation of the resources for the production of emails in English with a professional objective; the last session was dedicated to the production of the same emails without the assistance of the resources. The comparative study of the direct exploitation of a generic and a specific corpus by learners needing LSP highlights the relative efficiency of the specific corpus in terms of learning relative to the generic corpus, thanks to more targeted and reasoned consultations. The two groups showed better learning results than the control group
