English Abstract: Voting Advice Applications (VAAs) like the German Wahl-O-Mat inform users about their proximity to party positions before elections by ranking the parties. Referring to the theory of cognitive dissonance, this article examines the effect of using a VAA on voting behavior. For the empirical analyses, we draw on data of a quasi-experiment we conducted before the 2014 European Elections. The findings show that irritation emerges, if a preferred party is positioned at the bottom of the VAA list. A strong irritation can cause a change in intended vote choice
