Content: "Nutraceuticals are commonly defined as a substance that may be considered a food or part of food that provides medical or health benefits, encompassing the prevention and treatment of disease. So far, a lot of emphases were put on nutraceuticals health benefits contrasting the little information available on their efficacy, side-effects or possible drug interactions. Within this context, this book aims to raise the consumers' awareness of nutraceuticals diversity, their potential health benefits, side effects, and drug interactions as well as current legislation. Therefore this publication aims to provide up-to-date information about the safe use of nutraceuticals in everyday life from a critical point of view. Also, their proven health benefits will be approached in relationship with the most common diseases, where they are used to prevent, treat or as a complementary therapy to classical medication. Because, the use of experimental models is a mandatory step for understanding the mechanisms of action and characteristic effects of nutraceuticals, the most relevant in vitro and in vivo studies that proved the beneficial effects of some of the most widespread nutraceuticals were described. Also, because of their high prevalence within the general population, the use of nutraceuticals in cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, respiratory and viral infections will be discussed. Special focus will be given to the use of nutraceuticals in the pediatric population. Also, their effect on dermatological conditions and neurological conditions will be addressed. Nutraceuticals may represent a valuable asset in medicine, but future research is required to establish their full therapeutic potential and to translate current findings into clinical practice"--

Content: The results of the first round 2014 presidential elections in Romania predicted a comfortable win for the incumbent Prime Minister Victor Ponta, the president of the Social Democratic Party. After the first round, Ponta held a 10% lead over the Christian-Liberal Alliance candidate Klaus Iohannis. The runoff campaign was marked by reports displayed on all TV channels showing the Romanian Diaspora not being able to vote abroad. Surprisingly, Klaus Iohannis, who obtained 54% of the votes, won the second round of elections. Iohannis obtained 89% of Diaspora’s votes, adding a 4% gain in front of his contender. In most studies on electoral behavior, the focus for explaining why people go to vote is centered at the level of the “country, election, electoral cohort or individual voter” (Franklin 2004). Notably absent from these studies is the impact Diaspora on the election results and the predictors of turnout. The impact on national elections of this category of citizens is not to be neglected and it becomes important especially in democratizing states. In this vein we focus on the predictors that lie behind the political participation and preferences of Romanian Diaspora. We will test two basic models that explain participation (Franklin 2004). First there is research that focuses on the social determinants of voting (Verba and Nie 1972) labeled as “the baseline model”. Another stream of studies includes electoral system effects and political system format (Blais and Aarts 2006, Cox 1997, Franklin 2004). We claim that Romanian Diaspora voters participate in higher numbers in presidential elections when the number of voting stations increases. Romanian diaspora consistently votes with center right wing parties and candidates. This vote is associated with liberal policy preferences and support for issues that promote libertarian attitudes. We test these hypotheses with elections results data from 2000 to 2014 coupled with data collected from Votulmeu.com an online Voting Advice Application from the 2014 presidential elections in Romania

Content: Public food organizations have come in a relatively short period of time to operate in a highly complex business environment . As a result, quality and esp ecially food safety bec ame elements with new values, in a multidimensional approach of economy consumption. Simultaneously , the globalization of economic and social life has highlighted the need for a unitary approach on how to produce quality and safe pro ducts for the final consumer. For this reason, at the international level a series of standards have emerged that organizations have to follow to design, implement and certify food quality and safety management systems that benefit all parties involved. Th e present paper aims at carrying out a comparative study of certification schemes of food safety management systems in an attempt to give organizations the opportunity to understand what type of quality management system is appropriate to the organizationa l framework in which they are located, according with established objectives. The research is based on a comprehensive study of specific literature, articles and reference papers, the collection of data being carried out through comparative analysis of int ernational standards, private certification schemes for food safety management products and systems , in the desire to clarify the different approaches but also the similarities and differences between them.
