Der Gemeine Nagekäfer Anobium punctatum ist in Mitteleuropa in Gebäuden weit verbreitet und kommt mitunter auch in Freilandhabitaten vor. Unter den verbautes Holz zerstörenden Insekten Mitteleuropas ist A. punctatum neben dem Hausbockkäfer Hylotrupes bajulus der gefährlichste Schädling und wird besonders an hölzernen Kunstgegenständen, Treppen und Möbeln gefürchtet. Das hohe Schadpotential liegt vor allem darin begründet, dass A. punctatum aufgrund seiner Ortstreue Holzobjekte über viele Generationen hinweg befällt und diese dabei weitgehend zerstört. Es kommt nicht selten vor, dass Holzkörper fast völlig ausgehöhlt und bis auf 1/3 ihrer Holzsubstanz zernagt werden, so dass nur noch die von Ausfluglöchern schrotschussartig durchbohrte Hülle stehen bleibt. Bohrgänge verschiedener Larven können dann verbunden sein. Die Weibchen von A. punctatum legen ihre Eier in der Regel an die Holzoberfläche in Risse und Spalten, die Eiablage kann aber auch im Innern von Bohrgängen erfolgen. Die Larven nagen sich dann in das Holz vor, wobei sie den Fraßgang hinter sich locker mit Bohrmehl verstopfen (Becker, 1942). Bisher wurde in der Literatur eine Vielzahl natürlicher Feinden von A. punctatum genannt, sowohl Spinnentiere als auch Insekten. Zur Biologie dieser Arten liegen einige wenige Untersuchungen vor (Becker, 1954). Die Kenntnis dieser Antagonisten ist nicht nur von grundlegendem Interesse, sondern kann potentiell auch für die Befallsüberwachung und Bekämpfung von A. punctatum genutzt werden. Um aktuelle Nachweise von Antagonisten von A. punctatum zu erlangen, wurden in der Allerheiligenkirche zu Erfurt umfangreiche Monitoringmaßnahmen durchgeführt.
