Soundtrack zum mit 8 Oscars ausgezeichneten Drama um einen Jungen aus den Slums von Mumbai, der es in der indischen Version von "Wer wird Millionär?" bis in die letzte Runde schafft. Der so zum Medienstar gewordene ist aber auch Missgunst und Verdächtigungen ausgesetzt (Regie: Danny Boyle; Großbritannien, USA, 2008; Kinostart in Deutschland 19. März 2009). Neben den Preisen für den besten Film und die beste Regie erhielt der Film auch die Auszeichnung für die beste Filmmusik und den besten Song, gesungen von der britisch-tamilischen Sängerin M.I.A. Bei 2 weiteren Filmwettbewerben (Golden Globe 2009 und British Academy of Film and Television Arts 2009) wurde ebenfalls die Filmmusik von A.R. Rahman geehrt. Dieser zählt seit Jahren zu den besten indischen (Filmmusik-)Komponisten. "A R Rahman gilt als 'Mozart von Madras'.
