Abstract: Bei der Reduktion der Gallocatechin‐pentamethyläther mit Natrium in äthanol wird im Gegensatz zu den Befunden am Catechin eine Methoxylgruppe durch Wasserstoff ersetzt. Für das permethylierte Reaktionsprodukt wird die Konstitution eines 1‐[2.4.6‐Trimethoxy‐phenyl]‐3‐[3.5‐dimethoxy‐phenyl]‐propans ermittelt. An weiteren 1.2.3‐Trimethoxy‐phenyl‐Derivaten wird gezeigt, daß die Reaktion mit Natrium und äthanol stets zur reduktiven Eliminierung der mittelständigen Methoxylgruppe führt. Es wird eine Deutung dieses ungewöhnlichen Verhaltens gegeben.
