    Content: We present estimates of the term structure of inflation expectations, derived from an affine model of real and nominal yield curves. The model features stochastic covariation of inflation with the real pricing kernel, enabling us to extract a time-varying inflation risk premium. We fit the model not only to yields, but also to the yields’ variance-covariance matrix, thus increasing identification power. We find that model-implied inflation expectations can differ substantially from break-even inflation rates when market volatility is high. Our model’s ability to be updated weekly makes it suitable for real-time monetary policy analysis. -- Affine term structure models ; inflation expectations ; stochastic volatility ; asset pricing ; monetary policy

    Content: This paper uses data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe to examine the home care received by elderly in Western Europe. Specifically, we relate the demand for home care to the health status of the elderly household members and like previous studies find that health limitations, age, and marital status are important determinants of home care. New findings come from a detailed analysis of the relative demand from different potential home care providers (children, other relatives, friends and the state). The results reveal that relatives and friends provide as much home care as children and that the relative importance of the different home care providers changes with household characteristics like age and total health care demand. Furthermore, the results show that friends act as a substitute for informal care from adult children

    Content: Abstract: Based on the asymmetric copper‐catalyzed 1,2‐addition of Grignard reagents to ketones, (R,R,R)‐γ‐tocopherol has been synthesized in 36 % yield over 12 steps (longest linear sequence). The chiral center in the chroman ring was constructed with 73 % ee by the 1,2‐addition of a phytol‐derived Grignard reagent to an α‐bromo enone prepared from 2,3‐dimethylquinone.
