Does a real mutual intergenerational learning exist in Chinese parents-adolescents’ families?

Since the 1980s, a group of Chinese researchers has developed a theory known as the "reverse cultural feeding", which is used to describe a mutual learning process between parents and adolescents in today’s Chinese families. However, in consideration of the return of Confucianism, which maintains the generational hierarchy, other researchers put this theory into question, but without irrefutable evidence. In order to disentangle these controversies, through a survey with 324 Chinese families, we present our study which confirms the doubt on the existence of a real intergenerational mutual learning with a discussion on the structural causes.
