Content: Der Band dokumentiert die Vorträge der 55. Jahrestagung des Leibniz-Instituts für Deutsche Sprache, die unter dem Titel "Deutsch in Sozialen Medien: Interaktiv, multimodal, vielfältig" vom 12. bis 14. März 2019 in Mannheim stattfand. Die Beiträge des Bandes untersuchen, wie Soziale Medien Kommunikation und Sprache verändern und welche neuartigen kommunikativen Formen der Gebrauch sozialer Medien hervorgebracht hat. Kommunikationsmedien sind nie bloß technische Errungenschaften, sondern schreiben sich über ihren Gebrauch in unsere Kultur ein und verändern so unsere Verhaltensweisen und Wertvorstellungen. Soziale Medien vereinen sprachliche Aspekte mit multimodalen Kommunikationsformen wie Emojis und Hashtags, mit denen verflochten uns die deutsche Sprache in Sozialen Medien begegnet. Die Beiträge des Bandes fragen sowohl nach den wissenschaftlichen Möglichkeiten der Erfassung dieser Modi als auch nach dem Zusammenspiel von sprachlichen und anderen semiotischen Ressourcen. Daneben ist der quasi-öffentliche Raum als Schauplatz dieser Kommunikation ein zentraler Aspekt der Beiträge. Unter anderem fragen die Beiträge nach den Auswirkungen, die die Kommunikation in Sozialen Medien auf unsere (schrift )sprachlichen Kompetenzen hat, nach der Vertrauenswürdigkeit Sozialer Medien und nach den Folgen die Soziale Medien auf gesellschaftliche und politische Prozesse haben.

Content: Social media have become a virtually indispensable element of everyday life, whether for private communication (such as on WhatsApp), sharing content and photos (such as on Facebook and Instagram), or commenting on world events (via Twitter). Content: Today, the teaching of knowledge is facing a twofold challenge: the demand for comprehensibility despite the high complexity of contents and the achievement of acceptable results in school in situations of ever-growing diversity. Daraus ergeben sich für die Sprachwissenschaft neue Schwerpunkte: eine konstante Besinnung auf die Phänomene, das sind die kommunikativen Akte von Mitgliedern einer Sprachgemeinschaft im Alltag und in Bereichen fachlicher Spezialisierung, das sind aber auch variable Kontexte der Sprechakte, die eine Koorientierung der sozialen Akteure verlangen, die ebenso gelernt und geübt werden muss, wie die Sprachen in ihren formalen und strukturellen Eigenheiten. Content: A focus on methods can currently be observed in all subfields of linguistics. Rarely, however, is a perspective taken that integrates these individual sub-areas. The book brings together the current discussion of methods and assembles contributions that move along the spectrum of ethnography, mixed methods, and digital humanities and are framed by method(olog)ic reflections that the contributors have undertaken together.

Content: In allen Teilbereichen der Linguistik ist derzeit ein Fokus auf Methoden zu beobachten. Selten wird jedoch eine diese einzelnen Teilbereiche integrierende Perspektive auf Methoden und v.a. auch auf Methodologie eingenommen. Der Band unternimmt vor diesem Hintergrund den Versuch, die aktuellen Diskussionen um die Methodik der Linguistik, die sich aus den unterschiedlichen Methodeninnovationen der letzten Jahrzehnte ergaben, zu bündeln. Entwicklungen wie die verstärkte Software- und Datenorientierung, die methodische Vielfalt in Projektkooperationen oder der Trend zu ethnographischen Ansätzen werden in einer Reihe methodisch sehr unterschiedlicher Studien reflektiert. Sie haben jedoch alle gemein, dass sie auf ihre Weise traditionelle Grenzen linguistischer Methodik überschreiten; mögen diese intra- oder interdisziplinärer Natur sein. Rahmende Beiträge betten diese Studien in einen Diskussionszusammenhang ein, der für eine methodologische Reintegration der linguistischen Teildisziplinen plädiert. Insofern will der Band ein Anstoß sein.
