Series Statement: ICQI foundations and futures in qualitative inquiry
Content: "This book explores the substantive, field-defining and paradigm-changing work of Arthur Bochner and Carolyn Ellis. Scholars show through their writing and storytelling the influence of the work of Bochner and Ellis on both the field of autoethnography, and their individual research. Individually and collectively, Bochner's and Ellis' legacy extends beyond their home disciplines of communication and sociology, as well as beyond the boundaries of the United States. This collection highlights their contribution to the ethic, practice, and composition of autoethnography and narrative, both globally and on a deeply personal individual level"--

    Edition: 1st ed. 2017.
    ISBN: 94-6351-158-X
Content: In 2011, Doing Autoethnography—the first conference to focus solely on autoethnographic principles and practices—was held in chilly Detroit, Michigan on the campus of Wayne State University. The conference has since occurred four additional times (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016). Across the five conferences, thousands of attendees from more than ten countries have participated in hundreds of presentations, more than a dozen workshops, and multiple keynote addresses. The chapters in this collection represent outstanding work from the five conferences. Together, authors interrogate autoethnography ethically, theoretically, relationally, and methodologically. Readers will encounter many overlapping themes: identity norms and negotiations; experiences tied to race, gender, sexuality, size, citizenship, and dis/ability; exclusion and belonging; oppression, injustice, and assault; barriers to learning/education; and living with/in complicated relationships. Some chapters provide clear resolutions; others seemingly provide none. Some authors highlight conventionally positive aspects of experience; others dwell in what might be understood as relational darkness. Some experiences will likely resonate with many readers; others will feel unique, unusual, exceptional. In its entirety, the collection will take readers on an evocative, reflexive, and insightful journey.

Content: LIMITED PARTNERSHIP is the 40-year love story between Filipino-American Richard Adams and Australian Tony Sullivan, who, in 1975, became one of the first same-sex couples to be legally married. After applying for a green card for Tony based on their marriage, the couple received a denial letter from the Immigration and Naturalization Service stating, "You have failed to establish that a bona fide marital relationship can exist between two faggots." Outraged at the tone, tenor and politics of this letter and to prevent Tony's impending deportation, the couple sued the U.S. government, filing the first federal lawsuit seeking equal treatment for a same-sex marriage in U.S. history. Official Selection at the **Palm Springs International Film Festival**.
