Monteverdis Opern gelten zu Recht als die ersten Meisterwerke der Operngeschichte. Ähnlich einer DNA sind in ihnen alle Merkmale der modernen Oper enthalten. Elena Kats-Chernin, eine international erfolgreiche Komponistin aus Taschkent, nahm Monteverdis musikalisches Material, obwohl es nur eine vage Orchesterfassung beinhaltete, und schuf eine neue und eigenwillige Instrumentation. Ähnlich wie Monteverdi vor 400 Jahren verwebt Kats-Chernin verschiedene Stile von Jazz und Klezmer über Tango und Ragtime zu ihrem eigenen Stil. Diese Neuschöpfung der Monteverdi-Opern würzt die traditionelle Orchestrierung mit exotischen Instrumenten aus Osteuropa, dem Nahen Osten und Westafrika. – Starke, komische, packende, krasse und sensible Bilder, mit denen Barrie Kosky das Publikum fasziniert und zu donnerndem Applaus bewegt.(Arthaus)
