"Die Welt braucht keine Dirigenten!". Zu dieser Weisheit kommt ein Taktstockbauer. Ein animierter kleiner Kerl an seinem Werktisch. Doch bevor er zu weiteren Schlüssen kommt, widmet sich der Film dem eigentlichen Geschehen: dem international renommierten Bamberger Symphoniker Gustav-Mahler- Dirigentenwettbewerb 2010. Mehr als 280 Dirigenten weltweit bewarben sich. Zwölf wurden zum 10-tägigen Contest eingeladen, Ainars Rubikis aus Lettland hat ihn gewonnen. Jury wie Teilnehmer kommen zu Wort um zu erklären, warum er gewonnen hat, was einen guten von einem sehr guten Dirigenten unterscheidet und wofür das Orchester denn nun eigentlich einen Dirigenten braucht. Allmählich wird klar, dass dieser Jahrhunderte alte Hype um Dirigenten auch vollkommen berechtigt ist. Der animierte Taktstockbauer ist da jedoch anderer Meinung. "Der Taktstock" ist ein humorvoller, experimenteller Dokumentarfilm, der in die komplexe Welt der großen Kunst des Dirigierens eintaucht und sie verständlich macht. [www.br.de]
