Zum 300. Erscheinungsjubiläum des Romans wurde diese ungekürzte Fassung neu übersetzt und neu illustriert (gerade erschien dieser Abenteuerroman "mit Inselmotiv" auch als Roman für Erwachsene). Vorbild für die Kunstfigur Robinson Crusoe war wohl das abenteuerliche Leben des schottischen Matrosen Selkirk Alexander. Defoe, der Geistlicher hätte werden sollen, verfasste auch Pamphlete, Flugschriften und Zeitschriften mit politischen, sozialen, pädagogischen und religiösen Reformvorschlägen und stellt mit Crusoe ein Vorbild an puritanisch-pädagogischem Geist und bürgerlichen Tugenden vor. Nur damit schafft er es, sich als Schiffbrüchiger für 28 Jahre auf einer unbewohnten Insel einzurichten und den von Kannibalen verfolgten "Wilden", den er "Freitag" nennt, zum Diener und Freund zu erziehen. Crusoe, der auch Jäger und Bauer wird, beschreibt seine Tätigkeiten sehr genau und gibt uns auch ungeschönte Berichte von seinen bewaffneten Kämpfen, in denen übel wollende Feinde zu Tode kommen. Diese mit sehr edlen Zeichnungen geschmückte Neuausgabe würde ich Jugendlichen ab 12 Jahren empfehlen
