Project "Liberdade" (Freedom) is a collection of engraved monotypes, photographs and an installation composed of 32 barred cell doors collected from the debris of the Frei Caneca prison. From his workshop in Santa Teresa, where he can see the prison building, artist Carlos Vergara (b. Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil 1941) recorded the implosion of the prison complex and toured the rubble where he created the monotypes that served as basis for his paintings. Still on site, he photographed and videotaped the remnants of the prison, accompanied by photographer Eduardo Masini and television directors Fernanda Scalzo and Ines Vergara. From the images, Vergara created still works in 3D and a large installation, made with the cell doors. The question of freedom, present along the trajectory of the artist, is the central topic of this art project
