Während Wirtschafts- und Finanzkrisen, hohe Arbeitslosen- und steigende Armutszahlen die Gesellschaft verändern, blieb das strafrechtliche Sanktionensystem jahrzehntelang nahezu unverändert. Obwohl im mittleren und unteren Kriminalitätsbereich umfangreiche unerwünschte Nebenfolgen bei den verurteilten Tätern eine entsprechende Anpassung unabdingbar machen, führen leere Haushaltskassen und Kriminalitätsverzerrungen scheinbar zu einer politischen und wissenschaftlichen Resignation im Sanktionenrecht. Diese Arbeit greift bislang diskutierte Änderungs- und Ausbauvorschläge bei der Geldstrafe auf, bringt neue Ideen ein und untersucht alles im Lichte des aktuellen Reformbedarfs. Als Ergebnis wird ein erweitertes Strafensystem vorgestellt, mit dem die Geldstrafennutzung erheblich verbessert wird.
