Der normentheoretische Abschnitt des Buches entfaltet die Unterscheidung von Handlungs- und Verursachungsnormen als Normarten, die in engem teleologischen Bezug zueinander stehen. Eine wichtige Beobachtung ist, dass teleologisch aus Verursachungsgeboten Handlungsverbote und aus Verursachungsverboten Handlungsgebote folgen können, hier so genannte "akzessorische Normen". Weiterhin werden "Kenntnisgebote" beschrieben, die sich auf die Normerkenntnis beziehen, sowie Veränderungs- und Zustandsnormen, die den Fokus auf die Wirkungen von Handlungen legen. Schließlich wird der Begriff der Zurechnung definiert als die Annahme eines Normverstoßes, und es werden wichtige Zurechnungsregeln erläutert. -- Die normentheoretischen Unterscheidungen lassen sich für die Abgrenzung des Begehungs- vom Unterlassungsdelikt nutzbar machen. Das Problem, ob bei der Beurteilung eines Handelns an ein Tun oder Unterlassen anzuknüpfen ist, kann durch die Analyse der anzunehmenden Normen gelöst werden. Das Ergebnis der Untersuchung lässt sich in der einfachen Entscheidungsregel zusammenfassen, dass die Missachtung akzessorischer Normen nicht gesondert berücksichtigt wird. Die Arbeit belegt, dass die bereits von Binding hergestellte Verknüpfung von Normentheorie und Strafrechtsdogmatik beiderseits gewinnbringend ist.
