Nach 35 Jahren Ausstellungstätigkeit, davon 10 Jahre in der Pinakothek der Moderne, verabschiedet sich der Gründungsdirektor des Architekturmuseums, Prof. Dr. Winfried Nerdinger, mit der Ausstellung "Der Architekt - Geschichte und Gegenwart eines Berufsstandes". - - Obwohl Bauen zu den ältesten Tätigkeiten des Menschen gehört und die Architektur als Mutter der Künste gilt, sind die Arbeit des Architekten und die historische Entwicklung des Berufsstandes nur Wenigen genauer bekannt.In einer großen Ausstellung werden jetzt die vielen Facetten des Architektenberufs erstmals umfassend dargestellt: Die Entwicklung vom Baumeister zum Künstler und vom Fürstendiener zum Organisator wird dabei ebenso thematisiert wie das unterschiedliche Verständnis von Aufgabe und Stellung des Architekten in verschiedenen Ländern, Kulturkreisen und Jahrhunderten. - - Anhand von Skulpturen, Gemälden, Zeichnungen, Fotos, Modellen und Filmen entsteht ein ebenso vielfältiges wie spannendes Bild des Berufsstandes. Die Beispiele der Ausstellung reichen vom Alten Ägypten und der griechischen und römischen Antike über das Mittelalter und die Renaissance bis zur Gegenwart. Sie illustrieren und erklären nicht nur die Geschichte und Bedeutung des Berufs, sondern auch das Verhältnis des Architekten zum Bauherrn, die Umsetzung von Ideen, die bildliche Selbstdarstellung sowie die Beziehung des Architekten zu Musik, Theater und Film. Hinzu kommen Themen wie die Darstellung des Baumeisters in Sagen und Mythen, der Architekt als Theoretiker oder "Global Player", die Werkzeuge zur Materialisierung von Ideen sowie Ausblicke zur Zukunft des Architekten. Die Ausstellung wird von einer umfangreichen und reich bebilderten zweibändigen Publikation mit 45 Beiträgen von renommierten Wissenschaftlern begleitet
