Chemnitz is closely associated with the work of Henry van de Velde. In 1902/03, he received his first German architectural commission when he designed Villa Esche. On Van de Velde's recommendation, Edvard Munch was commissioned to paint the family's portraits. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of both artists, the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz is hosting a wide-ranging exhibition, presenting all aspects of Van de Velde's work. In this special exhibition and the accompanying catalogue, the Belgian artist is presented as a universal artist, architect, interior designer and designer. More than 300 objects - furniture, textiles, silver, ceramics, porcelain, works on paper - feature in this exhibition. Visitors will also gain a valuable insight into the work of Edvard Munch through examples from the collection and precious works on loan
