"Alice Aycock (geb. 1946) hat mit ihrer 2015 aufgestellten „Twister“-Skulptur ein neues Wahrzeichen für das Sprengel Museum geschaffen. Innerhalb kürzester Zeit ist dieser monumentale Wirbelsturm zu einer der beliebtesten und meist fotografierten Skulpturen im öffentlichen Raum in Hannover geworden. Ihre künstlerischen Anfänge sind zunächst stark von der amerikanischen Konzeptkunst, Minimal Art und Land Art geprägt. Sie widmet sie sich architektonischen Strukturen und entwirft nicht benutzbare Scheinarchitekturen sowie maschinenartige Metallskulpturen, die Elemente der angewandten bzw. der Ingenieurskunst auf ihre Idee von Bildhauerei übertragen. In den letzten 10 Jahren entwickelte Aycock ihre großformatigen Twister-Skulpturen, die Themenkomplexe wie Klimawandel und den Balanceverlust in unserem Umgang mit der Natur, aber auch technische Zivilisation und Ingenieurskunst verhandeln."
