Dieser Film ist ebenso laut und authentisch wie das politische und ästhetische "Nein" von Punk. Punk im Osten, das war Tumult, das war totale Verweigerung. Die Punks in er DDR stießen an Grenzen eines Systems, das seine Jugend steuern wollte. Im Konflikt zwischen Kollektiv und Individuum, Zukunftsnorm und Lebenslust, schrieben sie ein bizarres Kapitel ostdeutscher Geschichte. Punkbands wie Wutanfall, Schleim Keim, L'Attentat, Betonromantik oder Planlos stemmten sich gegen einen verordneten Zukunfstoptimismus und eine soziale Überversorgung. Der Film porträtiert die Biografien einiger Protagonisten der frühen Ostpunk-Bewegung über den DDR-Infarkt hinaus, erzählt von Anpassung, Konsequenz, Zwängen, Unabhängigkeit und von der Verwandlung der Ablehnung in künstlerische und politische Praxis. So gerät der Film nicht zur Musealisierung einer Bewegung oder zur ideologischen Abrechnung, sondern zum mitreißenden Porträt einer Subkultur, einer der wertvollsten und folgenreichsten Eruptionen im unerschütterlichen Glauben an eine Utopie, die zur Ideologie geriet. ostPUNK! too much future erzeugt durch rhythmisch montierte Bildcollagen einen Sog. Aktuelle Filmaufnahmen werden mit unveröffentlichtem original Super-8-Material kombiniert, DDR-Propagandafilme prallen auf Animationen mit Clipcharakter. Fotos und Filme zu Ostpunk waren in dieser Fülle bisher nicht zu sehen. Die ehemals illegalen Aufnahmen von DDR-Punkbands dürften in dieser Bandbreite bisher einmalig sein. Der Dokumentarfilm ist daher zugleich Pop und ein Musikfilm. Er ist eine kritische wie kraftvolle Auseinandersetzung mit der Gegenkultur im Osten und ihrer Repressionsgeschichte. (Covertext)
