Le musée Maillol met à l'honneur la collection exceptionnelle de l'industriel Emil Georg Bührle (1890-1956) qui a rassemblé, entre 1936 et 1956, près de 600 oeuvres. Présenté pour la première fois en France (du 20 mars a u 21 juillet 2019), cet ensemble d'une soixantaine de chefs-d'oeuvre parcourt plusieurs courants de l'art moderne : impressionnisme (Manet, Monet, Pissarro, Degas, Renoir, Sisley), postimpressionisme (Cézanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Toulouse-Lautrec), Nabis (Bonnard, Vuillard), Fauves (Braque, Derain, Vlaminck), Ecole de Paris (Modigliani), pour finir avec Picasso. Leur confrontation soulignera les liens et les filiations entre les courants artistiques à travers les époques, tout en illustrant l'apport personnel de chacun des peintres à l'histoire de l'art
