In Ostmitteleuropa sind in den letzten 20 Jahren Demokratien entstanden, die bezüglich der Parteiensysteme Besonderheiten aufweisen: Die meisten Parteien sind stark personalisiert und verfügen kaum über lokale Strukturen. Massenmedien sind oftmals der einzige Mobilisierungskanal. Dies führt einerseits dazu, dass die Parteien ihre Strukturen und Strategien an die Medienlogik anpassen (Medialisierung), andererseits versuchen die Parteien aber auch, politischen Einfluss auf Medien geltend zu machen (Politisierung). Es entstehen strategische Allianzen zwischen einzelnen Parteien und Medienunternehmen, obwohl die meisten Medien stark kommerziell ausgerichtet sind. Die Studie zeigt am Beispiel Polens, wie Medien und Parteien in den jungen Demokratien Ostmitteleuropas miteinander verflochten sind. Dabei werden aktuelle westeuropäische Modelle aus Politik- und Kommunikationswissenschaft angewendet.
