Immer häufiger sind die schnellen Elektrofahrräder auf den Straßen zu sehen. Besonders verbreitet sind "Pedelecs", das sind Räder, deren elektrischer Zusatzantrieb nur dann arbeitet, wenn der Fahrer auch in die Pedale tritt. Die bekannten Autoren (zuletzt P. Barzel: "Die neue Fahrradtechnik", BA 10/08, und G. Fehlau: "1000 Tipps für Radreisen", BA 9/03) setzen sich mit fast allen Fragen zum Thema auseinander. Einem kurzen Rückblick auf die Entwicklung folgt der Hauptteil zu Technik, Bauweisen und (Sonder-)Typen. Weiterhin angesprochen sind Fahrpraxis und Kauf von E-Bikes. Neben den Erläuterungen finden sich im ganzen Text (Firmen-)Fotos gängiger Modelle und es sind Interviews mit Verantwortlichen, vorwiegend aus der Industrie, eingeschoben. Eine Tabelle enthält eine knappe Marktübersicht nach Anbietern (mit URL). E-Bikes werden denkbar positiv dargestellt, auch in Hinblick auf ihre Option für den (Berufs-)Verkehr. Der Übersichtlichkeit hätte ein Register gut getan (z.B. bei der Frage nach der Reichweite). Zum Thema gibt es außer in Fachzeitschriften momentan keine Vergleichsliteratur. (2)
