Content: In the island of Madagascar, the integration of traditional medicine, as part of State politics submitted to the OMS requirements and international pressure, raises numbers of interests and modifies the links between a whole range of powers and the local knowledges. The analysis concerning traditional medicines policy reveals, on several levels of governmentality, the mechanisms of cooperation and competition between countries of the South and of the North, also between public institutions and private laboratories, thus induced by the pharmaceutical interests of local pharmacopeia. In the national health system, the introduction of a speciality in traditional medicine and herbal medicinal products registered by the Agency of Madagascar induces processes of reinvention of traditional medicine and struggles for legitimacy between practitioners for the conquest of a new professional monopoly. Under the influence of christianism, of a globalised trade and of the presence of foreigners, industrialization in the economic sector of plants and the professionalization of farmers change the relationships between man and his environment and come with ritual adaptations. Starting from Michel De Certeau's concepts of «strategy»and «tactics», this work analyzes social change and the links with globalisation by bringing to light the gap between what must be done and what is actually being done

Content: Europe's place in history is re-assessed in this first comprehensive history of the ancient world, centering on the Indian Ocean and its role in pre-modern globalization. Philippe Beaujard presents an ambitious and comprehensive global history of the Indian Ocean world, from the earliest state formations to 1500 CE. Supported by a wealth of empirical data, full color maps, plates, and figures, he shows how Asia and Africa dominated the economic and cultural landscape and the flow of ideas in the pre-modern world. This led to a trans-regional division of labor and an Afro-Eurasian world economy. Beaujard questions the origins of capitalism and hints at how this world-system may evolve in the future. The result is a reorienting of world history, taking the Indian Ocean, rather than Europe, as the point of departure. Volume I provides in-depth coverage of the period from the fourth millennium BCE to the sixth century CE.

Content: The aim of this thesis is to focus on diviner-healer, in other words, the ritual master and his different figures whose authority is part of the tradition. The research has been devoted to this holder of knowledge who point and anhances his actions in a belief system associated to the traditional worship which includes royal, family and nature spirits. Being acknowledge as a diviner-healer in a broad sense requires full knowledge of plants and charms that are active over people, as well as knowledge of divination and mobilisation of spirits. He acts for the community or for one person and so, subgroups of specialists get organized according to that characteristic. The prepared charms are meant for those who ask for them and, in fact, the ritual cations actually aim at avoiding, curing and solving any kind of problems. In order to restore the religious and political landscape, the divine-healer is involved in, the historical dimension is considered, so as to evaluate the time but also space values of its fields of action, and to comprehend the production of actions or reactions in a context of institutional domination. showing multiple faces, he is seen as having power - either therapeutic, magic, social or political - considered as such from a historical point of view. As the central figure of this research, he is also observed in situation and in relation, a study based on ethnographic data
