    ISBN: 978-3-318-00462-5
Series Statement: Developments in ophthalmology Vol. 32
    Uniform Title: Pilzerkrankungen des Auges
Content: This volume presents the current knowledge on ocular mycology in its various diagnostic and therapeutic aspects. It is an extended translation of "Pilzerkrankungen des Auges" by the same author. The first chapter on general mycology is a contribution by R. Rüchel (Goettingen), and summarizes the relevant fungi and their classification. The following chapters describe antimycotic drugs including their systemic and topical administration, orbital infections such as mucor or aspergillosis together with their palpebral and lacrimal involvement. Data on conjunctival colonization keratomycosis, and its various diagnostic and therapeutic aspects are given, as well as information on endogenous endophthalmitis – risk factors, clinical presentation, medical and surgical therapy – together with the features of exogenous endophthalmitis. Ocular histoplasmosis syndrome and its differential diagnosis is discussed. In addition, the book presents case reports showing typical symptoms; comprehensive experimental data are provided in the final chapter. Ophthalmologists and general practitioners dealing with infectious diseases will find comprehensive and current data on pharmacokinetics, keratomycosis and endophthalmitis in this important publication

    ISBN: 978-3-318-00425-0
Series Statement: Developments in ophthalmology Vol. 30
Content: Although considerable light has been shed on the mechanisms of ocular immunity over the past 20 years, a complete understanding still eludes our grasp. To many ophthalmologists immunology itself is a comparatively new field. This volume will bring the latest findings in immunological research and the resulting new therapy methods to the ophthalmologist in practice. The scope of the topics goes from general principles of immuno-ophthalmology to more specific ones such as immunology of corneal transplantation or immune regulation of uveoretinal inflammation. With its broad scope of contributions, this publication will not only be significant to the ophthalmologist, but also to pediatricians, specialists in internal medicine as well as dermatologists confronted with eye diseases

    ISBN: 978-3-318-00780-0
Series Statement: Developments in ophthalmology Vol. 33
Content: This volume collects for the first time interdisciplinary findings in ophthalmology concerning effectiveness and indications of antiseptics for the prophylaxis and therapy of infections. The first part discusses the use of various antiseptics against colonization, contamination and infection of the eye caused by viruses, bacteria, fungus and protozoa in comparison to topical antibiotics. The spectrum of action, the risk of resistance of only microbiostatic active agents and the galenic requirements of antiseptics are included as well as the local and systemic tolerance. New data to iodophors, polyhexanide and magnesium monoperphthalate are presented, and, for the first time, microbiologic requirements of ocular antiseptics are defined. In the second part the current scientific knowledge of prophylaxis and therapeutic antisepsis is presented including Credé's prophylaxis and requirements in cornea banks. The final part is reserved for additional topics such as isolation techniques, hand hygiene, hygiene of contact lenses and microbiological diagnostics. To ophthalmologists, optometrists and opticians this book will give indispensable information on latest clinical and experimental findings in the field. It will also be essential reading to hygienists, microbiologists, infectionists, pharmacologists, pharmacists, and pediatricians interested in ophthalmologic issues
