Wieder ein echter Bentz! Neben den prachtvollen Hundeschilderungen, die unzähligen Lesern aus früher erschienenen Werken von Hans G. Bentz bekannt sind, wird hier die Problematik der jungen, oft allzu jungen Liebe und Ehe gezeigt. Der Band ist vollkommen in sich abgeschlossen, gleichzeitig aber eine Fortsetzung des Buches " Zwei Töchter auf Pump", von dem inzwischen über 700.000 Exemplare verkauft worden sind. Im Mittelpunkt stehen auch diesmal die beiden Vizetöchter des Schriftstellers, Margot und Susanne, die inzwischen in das heiratsfähige Alter gekommen sind und ihre Umgebung in einen Strudel aus Angst und Aufregung versetzen. Und wieder wenden sie sich, wenn niemand sonst mehr weiter weiß, um Rat an ihren Vizepapa, den sie den "Colonel" nennen. Ja, sie verlangen viel mehr als Rat, sie verlangen, daß er sich aktiv in die turbulenten Ereignisse einschaltet. Und er tut es, zähneknirschend und über verschwendete Zeit murrend, aber im Grunde doch nur allzu gern. Dabei gerät er in sehr seltsame und lustige Situationen, ob er nun einen Vamp oder einen heiratswütigen Professor bändigt oder ob er dem nach Erfolg und Unabhängigkeit strebenden, jungen und unsicheren Ehemann eine gehörige Lektion erteilt oder eine ältere, herrschsüchtige Dame zur Einsicht bekehrt. - Durch dieses ganze Puzzlespiel des Lebens aber springt und tobt der neue "Bund der Drei", nämlich der alte Drahthaarfoxl Weffi und seine zwei neuen Spielgefährten, ein Pudel, der wieder Peter heißt, und ein Springercocker, der wieder Cocki heißt. Ihre Schicksale verschlingen sich mit denen der Menschen, und das Ganze endet völlig überraschend und mit einer Frage an das Schicksal - und an den Leser, einer Frage, die jeder für sich selbst beantworten muß.
