Luftverunreinigungen, die die Lebensmöglichkeiten von Menschen, Tieren und Pflanzen sowie den Bestand von Sachwerten sehr stark beeinflussen können, gehören zu den Begleiterscheinungen einer ständig und stark zunehmenden Industrialisierung und Technisierung. Die Bedeutung der Luftverunreinigung wird um so größer, je weniger alle Maßnahmen ausreichen, um den ständig wachsenden Ausstoß an luftverunreinigenden Substanzen zu vermindern. An ihrer Entstehung sind Arbeitsverrichtungen und Produktionszweige beteiligt, bei denen feste, flüssige und gasförmige Stoffe in die Atmosphäre emittiert werden. Eine Unterteilung kann man je nach Auswirkung auf die Umwelt vornehmen, wo Luftverunreinigungen eine Wirkung entfalten, die von Belästigung bis zur Gefährdung und Schädigung reicht. In diesen weiten Grenzen bewegen sich naturgemäß auch die Forderungen nach Gegenmaßnahmen. Grundlage zu jeder Maß- und Stellungnahme sind analytische Untersuchungen, die ein einwandfreies Bild der vorliegenden Tatsachen vermitteln. 1. 1 Begründung der Wahl von Schwefeldioxyd als in der vorliegenden Arbeit ausschließlich behandelter Bestandteil verunreinigter Luft Die schädlichen Wirkungen der Rauchgase sind hauptsächlich auf den gasförmigen Anteil und nicht so sehr auf den Staubgehalt zurückzuführen. In erster Linie handelt es sich dabei um das Schwefeldioxyd, das zu den stärksten und auch am weitesten verbreiteten Schadstoffen gehört [1], [2]. Es kommen zwar noch schädlicher wirkende gasförmige Stoffe vor, aber keiner derselben tritt so häufig und in so hohen Konzentrationen auf wie Schwefeldioxyd. Neben Industriewerken, z. B.
