Keine trockene Aufzählung von Entdeckungen, man erfährt eine Menge über die einzelnen Entdecker und deren Zeit, auch manche weniger bekannte, aber spannende Einzelheiten. So verwendet man im Iran und in Afghanistan den genauesten Kalender, Hinweise auf dunkle Materie gab Fritz Zwicky bereits in den 1930er-Jahren, eine 1. Idee zu Schwarzen Löchern hatte schon der Pfarrer, Geologe und Astronom John Michell 1783. Angesichts solcher Details vermisst man ein Literatur- und Quellenverzeichnis, ein Register fehlt, und die Kapitelüberschriften sind auch nicht immer sehr aufschlussreich. Genug gemeckert, für den Einstieg eine spannende Hinführung zur Astronomie, die Autoren sind nicht nur fachkundig, sondern auch ausgezeichnete Erzähler; dies macht den Verzicht auf Bildmaterial leicht.
