Christopher Blake trägt mit seiner Arbeit dazu bei, umfassender und tiefgehender als bisher verstehen zu konnen, warum Bilder von Frauen in den Medien die Korperzufriedenheit ihrer Betrachterinnen beeinflussen können. Um die Ursachen der Wirkungen zu rekonstruieren, werden ausgewählte kommunikationswissenschaftliche, sozialpsychologische und medienpsychologische Ansatze in einem Erklarungsrahmen auf Basis der Selbstdiskrepanztheorie integriert. Dieser erlaubt die zusammenhängende Erklärung der teils widersprüchlich anmutenden empirischen Forschungsergebnisse, die zu den Wirkungen medialer Körperdarstellungen auf die Körperzufriedenheit existieren.
