Thorvald Hellesen (1888-1937) war ein norwegischer Avantgarde-Künstler, der in den 1910er- und 1920er-Jahren in Paris lebte und arbeitete. Mit seiner Frau, der französischen Künstlerin Hélène Perdriat gehörte er zum Kreis um Pablo Picasso, Fernand Léger, Constantin Brâncu i, Piet Mondrian und Theo van Doesburg. In seinem kurzen, aber intensiven Leben entstand ein vielfältiges, an der Moderne orientiertes, gleichwohl einzigartiges OEuvre: Er malte in Öl, schuf Aquarelle, Gouachen, Zeichnungen, entwickelte Designs und gestaltete Textilien. Dennoch ist selbst in Norwegen der Name Hellesen nur wenigen ein Begriff. Dag Blakkisrud, Matthew Drutt und Hilde Mørch entwickeln mit dieser Publikation ein vielschichtiges und faszinierendes Porträt des Künstlers.
