Essays on the work of Luis Palés Matos (1889-1959), considered together with the Afro-Cuban poet Nicolás Guillén, the father of the "Negrismo" movement and Dominican poet Manuel de Cabral, one of the greatest promoters of Afro-Antillean poetry. He published his principal work, Tuntacuteun de pasa y griferacuteia, in 1937. Tomas Blanco y Geigel (1896-1975) was a Puerto Rican writer, poet, narrator and physician. Blanco was a writer during the 1930s who was known for his critical essays that analyzed Puerto Rican culture. Similar to other authors of his generation that lived through the Great Depression, his work focused on political and social issues
