Die rätselhafte Erzählung 'Nay-gayst' des jiddischen Autors 'Der Nister' (geb. 1884 in Berditschew, Ukraine; gest. 1950 im sowjetischen Gulag), 1920 in einem Waisenhaus bei Moskau geschrieben, überrascht mit einem selbstgewissen Pathos, das man sonst bei diesem symbolistischen Autor vergeblich sucht. Zunächst wird der Leser Zeuge der Himmelfahrt eines Mystikers, der unschwer als der Nister selbst zu identifi zieren ist. Dieser sieht etliche Visionen, die ihm ein Unterweiser deutet. Dann kehrt der Mystiker auf die Erde zurück und unterweist nun seinerseits eine Gruppe von Schülern. Am Ende ziehen Meister und Schüler vor Tagesanbruch hinaus, um der Ankunft des 'Heiligen Ostens' zu harren. Der Erklärung dieses Textes als hymnische Begrüßung der Oktoberrevolution und des 'Heiligen Osten' als deren Metapher widerspricht Boehlich vehement. Sie befragt diesen Text erstmals konsequent auf seine Grundlagen in der jüdischen Mystik hin, von deren biblischen Ursprüngen bis zum Chassidismus. Dadurch wird sowohl die Geschichte plausibel als auch die Position des Textes im literaturtheoretischen Diskurs der Jahre nach der Oktoberrevolution sichtbar. Zum Schluss wird gezeigt, wie die zum Verständnis dieses einen Nistertextes gewonnenen Schlüssel auch andere Texte bis hin zu Nisters epischem Roman 'Di mishpokhe Mashber' erschließen können. Der Band enthält einen Abdruck des jiddischen Originaltextes und dessen erste Übersetzung ins Deutsche.
