Eine der bedeutendsten Geistesgrößen der Menschheitsgeschichte, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (1646́1716), wird vor allem mit der niedersächsischen Landeshauptstadt Hannover in Verbindung gebracht. Hier verbrachte er die letzten 40 Jahre seines 70-jährigen Lebens. Wenn man seine vielen Reisen berücksichtigt, waren es aber wohl nur insgesamt 30 Jahre.Leibniz bereiste oft monate- oder gar jahrelang Europa. Dass er aber auch im Niedersächsischen sehr viel unterwegs war, ist weniger bekannt. Annette von Boetticher und Georg Ruppelt wollen mit Texten und vielen Bildern diese durchaus effektive und schöpferische Beziehung zwischen dem Universalgenie und der norddeutschen Region einer hoffentlich großen Leserschaft vermitteln.Sie erläutern zunächst kurz, was sie unter einem Leibnizort verstehen und geben dann einen Überblick über die Geschichte der Regionen, die das heutige Bundesland Niedersachsen bilden. Dazu gehört auch eine verständliche Zusammenfassung der Historie der Welfen, eines der ältesten abendländischen Adelsgeschlechter
