Content: MRI has become the preferred noninvasive imaging modality for the heart and great vessels. The substantial technological progress achieved in recent years has provided the user with state-of-the-art MRI systems, but their optimal use can be limited by restricted awareness of the potential patient benefit and the necessity for teaching. This extensively illustrated volume, together with the accompanying CD-ROM, has been specifically compiled to meet these needs. Essential theoretical background information is provided, and imaging acquisition and potential pitfalls are considered in detail. Most importantly, structured guidelines are provided on the interpretation of clinical data in the wide range of cardiac pathology that can be encountered. Throughout, the emphasis is on the implementation of cardiac MRI in clinical practice.

Content: The concept of anthropization refers to those dynamics observed within landscapes and ecosystems whose cause can be related to human activities that, consequently, could be considered as disturbances of natural balances. Agricultural development, the expansion of mining operations and the growth of urban centers are typical examples. This presence of man as a disrupter of natural systems and the environmental consequences of his actions form the leitmotif of this book. The book is addressed to those interested in the unique ecosystems of the former Katanga province, particularly those around its capital, Lubumbashi, which have been characterized by strong anthropic pressure for several decades. Although the disciplines covered in this book are mainly plant biology, agronomy, and earth sciences, it provides a beautiful mapping of the realities of Katangan landscapes, which is also relevant for an environmental contextualization of studies conducted by researchers in the humanities or in the health field. This book is the result of a long-standing collaboration between Belgian universities and the University of Lubumbashi. This North-South cooperation, which is beneficial to both parties, is not only a means of development in terms of research for the scientists involved, but also expresses their commitment to society.

Content: This book (Malagasy silkworms. Ecological and sociological issues) reflects the achievements and scientific activities of the university cooperation project for the 'Management and sustainable enhancement of the endemic silkworm Borocera cajani in a forested area of the Antananarivo region" 'financed by the CIUF-CUD (University Development Cooperation in Belgium). The first section of the work deals with the biological and ecological aspects of silkworms in Madagascar-with emphasis on landibe (Borocera cajanus Vinson, 1863). The second section studies the ecological and botanical dimensions of the habitat of the species, namely, tapia formations (Uapaca bojeri Baill.), by focussing on the silvicultural and botanical aspects, the causes and indicators of its decline, etc. The third section provides information about the valorization of the silk industry and covers a variety of approaches including the compilation of an inventory of edible wild plant resources and their chemical characteristics. This section also looks at the role played by silk in the rural economy, and the knowledge and skills of local communities. The third section ends by taking a look at the socio-institutional context as well as interactions between the players involved in the industry. This work comprises 21 scientific contributions written by 33 authors ; some of them are in english and all the abstracts are written in french and in english. Several chapters have already been published elsewhere. This book is aimed at all those who are passionately interested in Malagasy society and biodiversity, and the potential value of this large island in the context of sustainable development

Content: We are currently witnessing the settlement of the world's peri-urban areas by hundreds of millions of people. This development poses formidable problems and unprecedented difficulties for public policies. While the effects of peri-urbanization are relatively well known in the countries of the North, analyses dedicated to the countries of the South are much less developed. The book "Territoires périurbains: développement, enjeux et perspectives dans les pays du Sud" (Peri-urban territories: development, issues and perspectives in the South) lifts the veil on this issue and on the major challenges that peri-urbanization poses for the South in general and for Central Africa in particular. The book begins by seeking to clarify what exactly is meant by "peri-urban territory". Following this contextualization, it continues with five parts organized around the issues of natural resources, food security, public health, public services and land use planning. For each of these issues, specialized researchers from a variety of disciplines make contributions that, while highlighting the magnitude of the challenges, allow for the development of innovative solutions to improve governance and the well-being of populations. This book is primarily intended for researchers concerned with the challenges of development. At the same time, through the avenues for public action that it outlines, it will also be of interest to decision-makers and practitioners who operate in the context of peri-urban territories in the South

Content: The forests of the Congo Basin are the second largest tropical forest in the world. For a long time, conflicts of use have been numerous. In order to preserve its ecosystem services, the exploitation of these forests should integrate the principles of sustainable management. Information, education, training and outreach work is therefore necessary within Congolese society. University cooperation is an appropriate way to meet this need for training for all actors concerned with the resources present in the forests of Tshopo (former Province Orientale). A targeted inter-university project financed by ARES (formerly CUD) entitled "Support for the organization of a master's degree in forest management to strengthen the capacities of Congolese researchers with a view to the socio-economic recovery of the Democratic Republic of Congo - AFORCO" provided for two main activities: postgraduate training and the production of doctoral theses in disciplines relevant to forest management. The capacities of 16 experts were strengthened through a DES in sustainable forest management at the University of Kisangani (2009-2011); in December 2015, two PhD theses were presented and defended at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech in the fields of wood biology and landscape ecology. This book provides a review of the studies carried out thanks to the AFORCO project and related projects, mainly in the form of final works and PhD theses on the forest ecosystems of the Tshopo. This book is primarily intended for researchers concerned with the challenges of sustainable development in developing countries characterized by the presence of still abundant natural resources. The studies presented highlight the added value of academic cooperation, the need for long-term scientific collaborations and the potential synergies of North-South academic exchanges.
