Erotische Bilder des eigenen Körpers mit anderen über digitale Medien zu teilen, ist heute für viele Menschen zu einer alltäglichen Praxis geworden. Aber wie genau betreiben sie „Autopornografie“? Die Studie gibt erstmals ethnografische Einblicke in die körperlich-materielle Praxis hinter den expliziten Bildern und analysiert die komplexen Wechselwirkungen zwischen Körpern und Körperbildern, Medientechnologien und Männlichkeitsidealen, die aus alltäglichen Normalkörpern pornografische „Körper zur Ansicht“ machen, die sich online selbst veröffentlichen. Für die Untersuchung machte sich der Autor selbst zum Teilnehmer und untersuchte die Medienpraktiken schwuler Männer in der Cammingcommunity, für deren Mitglieder der erotische Bildertausch eine Form medienvermittelter Sexualität ist. Die Studie analysiert mikrosoziologisch die Interaktionslogik dieser Praktiken und betrachtet gendersoziologisch die Konstruktion von Männlichkeiten mit Bildmedien. Darüber hinaus verfolgt die Studie das Ziel, körper- und mediensoziologische Fragestellungen zusammenzudenken. Sie zeigt, wie der Körper in autopornografischen Praktiken selbst zu einem Medium gemacht wird, indem seine Medialität und Materialität moduliert werden. Wie Artefakte, Zeichen und Bilder sind Körper in Prozesse der Mediatisierung eingebunden, in denen die Grenzen zwischen Darstellung und Erleben, zwischen Symbolischem und Materiellen unscharf werden. Methodisch exploriert die Studie die (Scham-)Grenzen und Möglichkeiten einer reflexiven ethnografischen Erforschung devianter Praktiken am eigenen Leib.
