Galardonado con el I Premio de Ensayo Hispánico Klaus D. Vervuert, este estudio se aproxima a las apropiaciones latinoamericanas y caribeñas de "La tempestad" de William Shakespeare atendiendo al problema de la autorización literaria. Se concentra para ello en un recorrido por diversos géneros (crónica, ensayo, poesía, teatro, novela), autores (Paul Groussac, Rubén Darío, José Enrique Rodó, George Lamming, Aimé Césaire, Roberto Fernández Retamar, Iván de la Nuez, Hugo Achugar, Leopoldo Brizuela) y lenguas (español, francés, inglés), que privilegia tres momentos clave: el Modernismo en el Río de La Plata; la Revolución Cubana y los movimientos de descolonización en el Caribe; y los ‘posnacionalismos’ (la diáspora cubana) y la posdictadura de los años 90 en el Cono Sur. El ensayo reflexiona sobre un denominador común: el "misreading" o la lectura errónea, el descentramiento y el desvío, la apropiación transculturadora del texto canónico. En el recorrido, la “asimilación creadora” despunta como un mecanismo integrador sincrónica y diacrónicamente, religando no solo textos, sino también autores, regiones, épocas y lenguas
